God's address at Jesus' baptism

Epiphany 1 / Baptism of Our Lord Jan 8, 2017

Jesus’ baptism was a sort of dedication or consecration. And just as at an ordinary dedication ceremony, there was someone giving an address - God himself. But the address actually heard from heaven on Jesus’ baptism day was an abridged version of the full address. The full address is found in Isaiah 42. And there we hear that Jesus wasn’t just set apart in the people’s minds and hearts at his baptism. There we hear that he was set apart in reality by being equipped with the Holy Spirit in his baptism to carry out his saving task, and we hear what that task was.
